Is It Worth It to Reroll Grand Blue

With the recent release of GBVS there are bound to be newcomers curious about the original game and now is as good a time as any to jump in. As part of the 6th anniversary celebration players are provided with multiple resources, free pulls, and scratcher tickets every day until the end of the month to either jump start new rosters or round out existing ones. The tail end of the month is probably the best time to jump in with these free pulls as you're able to reroll with the chance of SSRs being doubled from the regular 3% to 6%. The banner is live at the time of this posting so get rolling!

Re-roll Baiscs

In GBF teams consist of three basic things; characters who do the fighting, weapon grids that amplify their damage stats, and summons that provide passive stat boosts and active abilities. The constantly rotating gacha pool includes a series of character weapons and summons. Pulling a specific character weapon also allows you to recruit the character associated with that weapon into your roster.

While you can technically start playing with any roster your life is infinitely easier if you have a solid core from the get go. With the current anniversary event the final day (March 31st) will provide all players with a guaranteed 100 rolls so now is the best time possible to build up a solid core.

In terms of who you want to keep personal favorites or specific art styles will always trump gameplay, so follow your heart in terms of which rosters to keep. Players who are more gameplay oriented will find resources like the GBF Wiki Tier List to be a solid guiding force with some caveats. The rating system employed judges characters under the assumption that they are being used in end game environments and each character's specific potency and utility varies based on the teams they're matched with. As a very crude guideline opt for starting rosters that have multiple 9.0+ rating characters.

Reroll Process

The game can be played on either Android or iOS apps, in the AndApp in Windows, or simply in Google Chrome on any device of your choosing. The basic process is to simply do your rolls, wipe data when you have a roster you don't want to keep, and repeat until satisfied.

Fire up the game and click through the settings, none of them matter too much for the purposes of re-rolling but I'd recommend going with the lowest settings possible just to reduce how much data gets downloaded in the background. Skip through the tutorial as quickly as possible. All fresh accounts will get 1 daily 10-pull every day for the first week. Go ahead and perform it before continuing.

If you're reading this during one of the anniversary events or promotion periods, you'll also see a roulette on the screen to determine how many 10-pulls you get for the day. The results are predetermined so it does not matter if you tap fast or slow.

Click draw next until you've exhausted your daily allocation and decide if you have a roster worth keeping. If not clear your app or browser data and repeat the process from the beginning.

As a sample of an account to keep this is what I ended up settling on when I first started playing the game last summer. None of these units are top tier but they do form a solid core for a starting wind team, the dark Jeanne is just the cherry on top. There are certainly stronger units to re-roll for but I find the process pretty boring so I like to get it over with and start the actual playing as soon as possible. Typically weapon grids are chosen based on what element the starting roster mostly consists of so in my case wind was the obvious choice.

Once you've settled on a roster you are happy with you will want to make a Mobage account and people who aren't comfortable with Japanese will want to complete this step in Google Chrome. The translation isn't perfect but it is competent enough to inform you of all the details you'll need to fill in. Pay attention to the legal limits in Japan though as players under the age of 20 will have a maximum monthly spend of 10K JPY (~100 USD). F2P players or those who only plan to spend on anniversary tickets will have no problems regardless of age. As always make a copy of the details somewhere so you can recall all the info you've put in should you need to recover your account in the future.

Progression Basics

Recruiting new characters is obviously one of the highlights of the game but most players will find that their rosters naturally grow over time simply from being semi-active. My own teams have seen significant leaps simply from participating in the three roulette events that have taken place since I started playing last August. While I am far from sporting a top tier roster I do have enough characters such that I have a team to use for every element. My current bottleneck lies in the weapon grids and that's going to stay a work in progress for a very long time.

It can take several months of grinding to assemble a decent weapon grid for each element, after which there are more end game options and some even lead to the recruitment of powerful characters in the form of Eternals. The beginning is fairly straight forward as most basic grids can be assembled through a mix of main story and side story freebies. Concurrently content like Arcarum and the constantly rotating events can also be used to fill immediate gaps in teams to an extent. There's plenty of choice and no one single path is the best, it all boils down to individual preferences and play styles.

I'll keep my thoughts on the other aspects of the game for another post, this one is strictly about re-rolling and early game progression impressions. Happy rolling!
